ABOUT THE NAIS EXPERT CERTIFICATION PROGRAM
Obtaining your Expert Certification on your area of investigative specialization gives you the opportunity to be recognized and obtain official credentials for your accomplishments in the investigative profession. Upon certification approval, you are awarded an Expert Certification Certificate in your area of expertise and listed in the expertise section of the next NAIS membership directory. Your expert status and certification is also listed in the NAIS newsletter, The Private Investigator's Connection.

NAIS offers standard certification for areas of expert specialization as listed below. If you have an unusual area of specialization not listed in the standard listings, you can apply for that. Here are the standard areas of expert specialization certification:

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS
There are two ways to meet qualification standards for expert certification. Here is the standard qualification system:

1) Provide two years of verifiable experience in your area of expertise.
2) Either submit a sample investigative report (edited and censored by law if needed)
3) Have an investigative state license in good standing under your state if required.
4) Either submit two articles on your area of specialization or copies of articles that have been published and verifiable evidence that they were written by you along with the name of the organization that published them. If you have a published manual (defined as forty pages or longer) on your area of specialization, that can be substituted for the articles.
5) Show verifiable proof of providing two verbal presentations on your area of specialization. This could include presentations given at either investigative seminars or other non-investigative organizations.
6) Have established a history of ethical business and professional behavior free from unresolved complaints.

The second way to meet qualification standards.

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS
Once your Expert Certification Original Registration is submitted, your experience and qualifications will be reviewed, verified and investigated and an interview will conducted. You will be mailed an Expert Certification Detail Application that needs to be filled out. After successful approval of your qualifications you will be issued your Expert Certification in your area of specialization. Your expertise records will be kept confidential and under no circumstances will they be released to third parties except listings of actual expert certified investigator's lists listing your area of expertise once you are certified. You do not have to complete every part of the certification all at once and you do not have to qualify for everything all at one time. However, all portions of the application qualifications must be obtained within ten months of submission.

You can get the Expert Certification process started by filling out the Certification Original Registration below, registration fee and any accompanying material. You are then sent a more detailed application worksheet that needs to be filled out by you and submitted.
