PI MAGAZINE RELEASES 1OTH YEAR ANNIVERSARY ISSUE |
The year was 1988. NAIS had just obtained it's first major national magazine
publicity in Entrepreneur Magazine. The same year, I spotted an article
in the USA Today newspaper about a new magazine called PI MAGAZINE. I quickly
contacted the publisher who had started this publication, Bob Mackowiak.
You have to remember that at this time, not very many people knew what a
modem was and only a few had any idea what the Internet was. After talking
with Bob, I became a huge fan of his concept and his magazine. It's hard
to believe that ten years has gone by so quick.
Bob Mackowiak is one of those rare individuals with a mixture of dogged determination, superior journalism and editing skills. He had a big pipe dream. His dream was to put together a magazine on investigation, private investigation to be exact and make a go of it. There's been a huge amount of ten years worth of sweat and blood on Bob's part. The magazine struggled for several years to break even. At first, the PI Magazine featured the Fact And Fiction of private investigation. In 1992, the fiction part of the magazine was dropped and Mackowiak focused on developing America's Private Investigation Journal.
Today, PI Magazine has really become America's Private Investigation Journal. It features top writers and columnists such as Bill Kizorek, Joseph Seanor, John Grogan, Bill Palmer and Robert Scott. The magazine features articles on private investigation and marketing as well as profiles on private investigators and news from private investigative associations. It's also chuck full of ads for products and services of value to the private investigative and security industry.
Many people think I, Ralph Thomas, have a business interest in PI Magazine, However, other than supporting what Bob Mackowiak has developed, contributing articles and acting as a subscription agent, I don't have other business interests in it but I certainly have a professional interest in it--I simply want to continue to see it develop and grow because I think it's so good. Many people also think I started National PI Day but I didn't do that neither--that was Bob Mackowiak's brainchild and one that, like his magazine; has turned into a huge success.
This issue marks the 10th Anniversary issue and it looks like Mackowiak's pipe dream has come through after ten years of effort, love and determination. The issue is huge--104 pages long and inexpensive--only $24.00 per year with four issues per year.

I think we all owe Bob Mackowiak a huge round of online standing ovation for his ten year efforts to develop PI Magazine and I was wondering who would second that.

There is no way to consider yourself to be a very informed PI without subscribing to PI Magazine. It is our industry's trade journal.
