Anthony Pellicano Continues To Dominate Investigative News.
Congressional
Committee Subpoenas Companies Claiming to Sell Private Phone Records
WASHINGTON DC-A dozen companies that offer to sell detailed records of
private phone calls have been served with subpoenas signed by House Energy
and Commerce Committee Chairman Joe Barton, R-Texas, the panel announced
today. The move is the latest in an ongoing investigation into the Internet
sale of phone records and other personal information to criminals, stalkers
or anyone else. Batches of records typically sell for $100. Since launching
the inquiry on Feb. 3, the committee has identified individuals in the
U.S. and Canada behind 26 Web sites offering to violate consumers' privacy
by disclosing the phone records. On March 8 the committee approved bipartisan
legislation outlawing the practice and granting consumers new protections.

The Portable Dictograph Audio Amplifier from1907 was made by General Acoustic
Company, Jamaica, New York and invented by one K. Monroe Turner. This
is one of the first audio amplifiers. Ads placed in law enforcement and
private detective trade journals (of which there were very few at the
time) claimed this this unit could be installed and hidden just about
anywhere. You know, under "rugs" and "beds". This
state-of-the-art equipment of it's time sold for about $125.00. Remember
that the average salary in America at that time was about $750.00 a year.
That means that this unit cost about two months pay. The units could be
rented for about $6.00 a month.

The Kaypro Computer above had no hard drive but had two flopper disk drives.
You would put the program you wanted to use in one drive and then use
the other drive to save data to. It ran a word processing program called
Word Star and had a little database program to do mailing labels. This
was the first computer used by NAIS with a eight inch black and white
screen.

private clients. Some investigators might argue that I need to find better
clients, but I think it’s important to understand why we charge
what we charge and be able to explain that to our clients when asked.
