Skip Trace-Hot On The Trial
From hardened criminals to deadbeat parents to debtors, people throughout the world are on the run – an elaborate game of hide ‘n seek that’s keeping investigative work and skip-tracing services in demand. By Darren J. Waggoner

The Significance of Specific Denials During Interviews and Interrogations
"Recently, I reviewed a videotaped interview of an 17-year-old suspect who was being questioned about starting a fire that burned down his parent’s home. During the interview the investigator asked the punishment question: "What do you think should happen to the person who started the fire inside your home?" The suspect’s response was, "A person who starts a house on fire should be sent to jail." My initial interpretation of this response was that it represented a concerned attitude (harsh judgement against the guilty) and was, therefore, more indicative of an innocent suspect." A John Reid Article.

Protecting A Business's Valuable Trade Secrets
Virtually every business has some protectable trade secrets. From a newly developed formula or component for a product to the names and addresses of customers, suppliers or sources of raw material, trade secrets are everywhere. A trade secret has been defined as anything that is treated as a secret and that has some commercial value. It is, therefore, essential for you to take the steps necessary to protect those items which you consider to be valuable assets of your business. by Leonard D. DuBoff

Premises Liability And The Burden Of Proof
In an era when a jury finds a premises liable for injuries suffered by an elderly lady who spilled coffee in her lap, it may seem that a premises liability case is easy to prove. This is a misconception. The burden of proof, overwhelmingly falls on the plaintiff. If the case must be litigated, you will need all the evidentiary support you can gather. By Pattie James

The Investigative Interview in Anticipation of Litigation
The investigative interview is a very slippery slope. When assigned to obtain an interview, an investigator must understand that his challenge is to accomplish far more than learning the basic fundamentals of who, what, where, when and how. Insurance companies, attorneys, and corporations assign this effort rightly expect an alertness to critical information which enhances, mitigates, exculpates or clarifies the perceived degree of exposure of the matter involved. The interview, pivotal in many instances, is used as a critical tool to establish the overall cost effectiveness of whether to continue the litigation engagement or resolve the dispute by alternative methods. By Robert H. Townsend

The Red Flags of Mold Insurance Claim Fraud
The Certified Fraud Examiner, insurance special investigation unit investigator or the claims adjuster, faced with a claim for mold damage to real property should be aware of the red flags of mold insurance fraud. The existence of two or more of the mold red flags requires a more thorough investigation. They do not establish fraud but they establish a need for further investigation. By Barry Zelma from his Insurance Claims Newsletter.
