Military/Counter Intelligence Grade Telephone Analyzer 1970, 1980, 1990
The is a federal intelligence and military grade countermeasures unit
that came out of Fort Mead called the BTA-3A. It is a telephone analyzer
and wiretap bug zapper. It could also be used for intercepting telephone
conversations. This unit is no longer in working condition but it's a
great piece of intelligence and countermeasures history. It was used by
US Military counter intelligence and intelligence units as well as the
CIA in the 1970's, 1980's and 1990's. It had several functions. It's first
function was telephone line sweeping. The unit could analyze a telephone
line for bugs and wiretaps. The unit could then fry such devises on the
line rendering them useless. it could also be used for or intercepting
telephone conversations. it was built into a briefcase. The units new
sold for well over $10,000.
