Early Circle Star Cutout Private
Detective Badge, 1870's
Following the success of Allen Pinkerton and his Pinkerton Detective Agency,
local private detective services started to pop up in major cities in
America. Most of them were started by former cops .Badges were hand made
mainly by local blacksmith shops. The private detective badge was copied
from US Marshall badge designs of the time using a circle star cutout.
During this era, there were not any center seals and most badges were
issued generic.
