NAIS MacPortable -Forerunner Of Today's Laptop Computers, 1989
One day in 1989, the latest issue of MacUser Magazine arrived at the NAIS
office. On the front cover was a photo of a good looking girl setting
on a float in a swimming pool working on the new MacPortable. Thinking
that this kind of mobility was the way to go, it wasn 't long until Ralph
Thomas managed to get a credit line increase on his Apple credit card
and had one! This time it set him back another $6,500.00 but what the
heck! He had the forerunner of today's notebook computers. Thomas ended
up flat on his back from carrying the heavy thing around. It was over
50 lbs. Take a look at the specs to see what you could actually get for
$6,500.00 in 1989.

The magazine cover of Macuser Magazine in 1989.
After Ralph Thomas read this magazine, he went out and purchased the
50 lb MacPortable. The $6,500.00 price tag was charged to his Apple
credit card. Thomas has a bad back and this thing put him flat on
his back for several weeks after carrying it around. The MacPortable
was the Forerunner of today's laptop computers.
