There were 13 investgiative services and four display ads listed in the Portland yellow page telephone direcrtory in 1953. The population of Portland in 1953 was about 70,500. Note the use of the slogan "secret service" in the Stickle ad. Stickle advertised that they had both "male and fmale operators" Raymond De Lano advertized the fact that the had the "latest electronic sound recording and photographic equipment." Note the advertising slogan U.S. Protective Service used about selecting an investigator like you would a lawyer or physician. Also note that Spears used the slogan, "An Investigation Well Done Is A Case Half Won." In 1953, the use of the term, "secret service work" was still being used in the private sector.
