Medicine Bags In Three Different Sizes
This collection
of three different sized hand beaded deerskin medicine bags
with fringed bottoms are some of the best looking had made
medicine bags around.
Traditionally most
Native American people had what they called a medicine bag.
It was carried with them wherever they went much like today's
modern woman's purses are carried. Medicine bags would contain
objects and substances that were very important to Native
Americans. It might have herbs for medical purposes but these
bags also had objects that had a great deal of spiritual meaning
such as fetishes.
These finely done
deerskin medicine bags are hand beaded by Navajo Indians and
certified authentic. The three finely done had beaded medicine
bags measure:
Small:
2 3/4 wide X 3 1/2 long
Medium: 3 1/4 wide X 6 long
Large: 6 wide X 6 inches long
Many Native Americans
would carry more than one medicine bag and use them for different
purposes. For example, medical herbs might be placed in one
bag, spiritual food in another and spiritual fetishes in yet
another and tobacco in still one more.
